Grace Notes August & September

A look back at the events that took place in our church in the months of August and September>

August kicked off with Vacation Bible School.

The kids decorated lunch bags and added encouraging messages to be used by Food For Thought to fill with lunches for the homeless.

On August 20th the annual Return event was held by Keep Watch Ministry to pray for schools and teachers and school prayer walks in the new school year. There were great stories about prayer changing lives in various schools. Keyser principal, Natasha Allen, attended with us and was commissioned in prayer for the new school year.

On Sunday, August 27 Rebecca Navarre and Emily Hubbard shared a worship dance in the service.

Each year in August at our 5th Wednesday Community Night we highlight our partnership with Keyser School. This year principal, Natasha Allen, and third grade teacher, Nancy Shingledecker, shared about the impact our partnership has on the staff and students.

(Natasha is fostering a child so we are protecting the child’s identity.)

Our evening also included a visit from our friends Justice and Jemima Musyoka and their son John who was visiting from Nairoi, Kenya.

Labor Day weekend we held our Sunday service outside in the new pavilion and followed it with a potluck lunch. The kids also had an outdoor service in the chapel Mr. Nate created in the woods.

Back-to-school time means an increase in activity at our partner school. On September 11th we held a parent appreciation event at Keyser for grandparents. Goodies with Grandparents gave kids an opportunity to have their grandparents visit the school and get a family photo.

Walking Wednesdays began at Keyser in September. We chaperone a Walking School Bus through the neighborhood to help promote health and exercise.

In response to the hurricane damage in Houston the Toledo Public Schools did a supply drive to send supplies to Houston Public Schools. Grace, along with our partner churches, was able to donate 16 boxes of extra supplies from the school pantry.

Dr. Durant, Toledo Public Schools superintendent, was the key speaker at the Kid’s Club kick-off event for the new school year. This ministry is growing with more Schools in the area holding after school Bible clubs.

September is also the time of year for our annual Leaders Retreat. Held this year on September 16 at the 577 Foundation in Perrysburg.

We want to thank Bob and Sandy Wymer for sacrificing their day to serve us at the retreat and to thank Mike, Jeanne and Tori Dotson for coming out to help serve dinner. You all are greatly appreciated!
